Mortal Shell 2 Combat Guide — Break, Riposte & Seals

Updated August 23, 2026 · Checked for the current launch build

Quick answer: There is no stamina bar. Combat is about filling the enemy Break meter with Perfect Guards, parries, Hardens, and stagger tools, then pressing attack for a Riposte. Sidearms spend Resolve, which melee rebuilds. Red attacks cannot be parried.

The loop

  1. Choose a Seal: block, parry, or Harden.
  2. Dodge red attacks. Defend or sidestep the rest.
  3. Land short melee strings. Long combos are what get you hit.
  4. When Break fills, Riposte, then reset spacing.
  5. Spend Resolve on a sidearm shot or Tarstone ability only if the window is real.

Balance Patch 1 lets you Guard while walking. That is a quality-of-life change for Untarnished Seal, not a reason to hold block through every string — held block still fills your own Guard meter.

Weapons, sidearms, Tarstones

Eight melee weapons and eight sidearms. Infuse and ability Tarstones are often weapon-locked. Upgrade the moveset you can land; a developed A-tier weapon beats an unused S-tier drop. See best weapons and Tarstones.
