Mortal Shell 2 Beginner's Guide — First Hours
Updated August 23, 2026 · Checked for the current launch build
Quick answer: Do these five things first: finish the prologue, reach Marrow Keep, go to Widow's Overlook not Mammon, unlock Tiel or Proxima before exploring, and keep the Untarnished Seal until parries click. Do not spend your first hour as a bare Harbinger chasing a sidearm.

First session, in order
- Play the Festival interaction if you want the missable Mid Summer? trophy.
- Loot Vatra's Seal after the Tar Golem so Harden exists.
- Reach Marrow Keep. Rest, look at the Tarforge, talk to Genessa for the Infinite Seal training.
- Fast travel to Widow's Overlook. Get the first map fragment from Ruk.
- Unlock Tiel on the southeast path. Optionally Proxima to the north.
- Continue into Mushroom Village, not south into Mammon.
The same ticks live on Where to go first if you want the longer version.
Second screen: game on the main display, this tab on a second monitor, a snapped window, or a phone. Tick as you collect. Ticks stay in this browser only — a phone and a PC do not share them.

Systems the game under-explains
- No stamina bar. You can swing and dodge freely. Deaths come from Break, greed, and red attacks — not from running out of stamina.
- Gloom vs Glimpse. Gloom is souls. Glimpse bonds Shells and pays for summons. Glimpse is the scarce one — about 27 per maxed Shell.
- Seals are your difficulty slider. Untarnished = block. Infinite = parry. Vatra = Harden. Slayer = easier, reported to disable achievements. Night Mode = harder, more drops.
- If you get severed from a Shell, keep hitting enemies to refill the Shell meter. Dying as the Harbinger is the real corpse run.
- Mark finished dungeons on the map yourself. Launch players wasted hours because the UI does not always do it.
- Quit-out Gloom: pick up boss-room Gloom, pause, quit to title, continue. You keep it.
Common first-hour mistakes
Chasing the crossbow or any sidearm before a permanent Shell is the most repeated launch-week regret. Get Tiel or Proxima first.
- Starting in Mammon because the roof offers both directions.
- Maxing the wrong Shell with Glimpse you cannot refund.
- Equipping Slayer Seal on a trophy save.
- Turning on Night Mode before you have a heal upgrade.
