Mortal Shell 2 Zmey, the Unbidden Boss Guide

Quick answer: Dodge Zmey's flame lines sideways, attack from the flank, and keep every punish short. Use Cascading Flare as a damage window after leaving its fire zone. At half health, expect a burning sword and added Cosmic waves; defeating Zmey still leaves free roam open.

Location and route

Boss location: Central end arena beyond the three Unfound Path tendril guardians.

Bring 168 Ova to the Gloom Siphon, enter the Unfound Path beneath Marrow Keep, defeat the three branch guardians, sever the tendrils, and continue past Hidden Nave.

Preparation checklist

Collect the Endless Core in the Hidden Nave route and upgrade the equipment you already understand.
Refill healing and spend recoverable resources before taking the final updraft.
Use available pre-arena spirit summons only if they improve rather than obscure your camera and positioning.
Bring Burn/Cosmic mitigation if your collected Scriptures support it.

Attacks and counters

Attack	Tell / danger	Safe response
Blade Slam	Jump-back sword slam sends a straight flame line	Move sideways immediately; backward retreat is likely to stay in the line.
Cascading Flare	Flames erupt around your position while Zmey is rooted	Leave the marked zone, then close in and attack while the cast continues.
Flame breath	Wide frontal fire sweep	Sprint laterally until it ends, then punish the recovery.
Tail sweep	Wide horizontal attack from the flank	Dodge into or through the sweep timing; do not assume the side is always safe.
Red close slam	Unparryable punishment for staying underneath too long	Back away as soon as the red cue appears.
Phase-two waves	Multiple Cosmic waves after the sword ignites	Dodge sideways and continue in the same direction through the sequence.
Burning sword	Phase-one sword attacks now add Burn	Shorten exchanges and heal before damage-over-time becomes lethal.

Step-by-step fight plan

Approach the flank and learn the Blade Slam and tail timing before extending a combo.
Use only two or three hits per clean recovery window.
When Cascading Flare begins, exit the hazard and punish the rooted cast.
At the half-health stagger, take safe transition damage, then reset for the burning-sword phase.
In phase two, prioritize clean lateral movement through waves over maintaining constant DPS.

Rewards, achievement, and what comes next

It's over now? achievement for defeating Zmey, the Unbidden.
The post-fight story sequence returns you to a final free-roam cleanup window.
Selecting Send Ova later at the Gloom Siphon—not defeating Zmey—is the irreversible action that starts the ending/NG+ sequence.
