What to bring
The count can compress when the wider story is already advanced. Keep a small reserve, but hand over only the item Gorf explicitly requests.

Quest walkthrough
- From Widow's Overlook Beacon, head north toward the combat-trial altar, then turn right into the eastern marsh. Gorf's coughing is audible before he comes into view.
- Exhaust Gorf's dialogue and hand him a Weltcap. Speak again for the first Marsh Pearl, then rest at a Beacon before returning.
- Repeat the talk, requested-item, and Beacon-rest loop. A fresh route commonly asks for a second Weltcap and then two Common Moonshine, but later story progress can compress the sequence; follow the item named in the current dialogue.
- After the item visits, Cultist bodies appear around Gorf. Loot them, exhaust his new dialogue, rest again, and return for the Poisoned Dagger.
- Take the dagger to Hilga southeast of Mushroom Village Beacon. Cross the small wooden bridge, speak to her, and hand it over.
- Rest, return to Hilga's camp, and read the note on her table after she disappears. Then go back to Gorf, where Hilga is now treating him.
- Speak to Hilga and Gorf, give Gorf one more Common Moonshine, then rest and return for his recovery and final Marsh Pearl.
- Rest again to see Hilga's true form beside Gorf; rest once more for the small-toad epilogue. Their dialogue no longer advances after this scene.
Fresh-save state table
| Visit | Typical state | Reward / next action |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Give Weltcap | Marsh Pearl; rest |
| 2 | Give Weltcap | Marsh Pearl; rest |
| 3–4 | Give Common Moonshine when requested | One Marsh Pearl each; rest after each |
| 5–6 | Loot the Cultists, then return | Poisoned Dagger for Hilga |
| Cure | Hilga joins Gorf; give one Common Moonshine | Final Marsh Pearl, then epilogue rests |
Why guides disagree: several current guides report that story progress can skip an early request. The dialogue item prompt and visible scene state are safer than counting visits.
Rewards and decision value
- Five Marsh Pearls on a complete fresh route, worth 2,000 Coin each at Merrick.
- Poisoned Dagger is a quest item for Hilga, not an equippable weapon.
- The finished family scene and optional lute reaction are the narrative payoff; there is no Shell or Tarstone reward.
If the quest appears stuck
- No new dialogue: exhaust the current line, rest at a Beacon, and return. Reloading or walking away is not enough.
- Hilga only sighs: continue Gorf until you receive the Poisoned Dagger.
- Hilga disappeared: read the note on her table, then return to Gorf's clearing.
- Gorf requests fewer items than this table: continue normally; your wider story state has compressed the early loop.
Important note
The quest is state-driven, not distance-driven: leaving and walking back does not advance it. Rest at a Beacon after every completed conversation. One current walkthrough warns that handing over the Poisoned Dagger can skip Hilga camp scenes you have not viewed, so advance her Mushroom Village rest loop first if you want every conversation.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Gorf in Mortal Shell 2?
Start at Widow's Overlook Beacon, head north to the combat-trial altar, then turn east into the marsh. You can bypass the trial and follow the sound of Gorf coughing.
What mushroom does Gorf want?
Gorf asks for a Weltcap. One can be found by the bridge and tree north of Widow's Overlook, and more grow around the area.
How do I advance Gorf's quest?
Exhaust his dialogue, give the currently requested item, rest at any Beacon, and return. Simply leaving the clearing and walking back does not change the quest state.
What do Marsh Pearls do?
They are valuable trade items. Merrick buys each one for 2,000 Coin, and a complete fresh Gorf/Hilga route yields five.
